Topic: Growing Orchids “Q & A”

Jose Exposito is president of Soroa Orchids located in the heart of the orchid-growing community of the Redlands in Homestead. Jose is an accredited AOS judge and travels extensively around the world judging and speaking at shows and orchid societies. He has a long list of credentials in addition to being an AOS judge, he is a founding member of the International Orchid Alliance, past president of the East Everglades Orchid Society, past president of The Coalition of Orchid Species, past member of the AOS Education Committee, vice president of the Redland Orchid Growers Association and the Redland Orchid Festival, Inc. and past board member of the South Florida Orchid Society and chairman for the Florida Caribbean Judging Region.

Jose arrived in Miami from his homeland of Cuba during the Mariel boatlift. He started growing orchids in his backyard; like most of us do, in an area that measured 30’ x 30’. In 1985 he started Soroa Orchids and after the devastation of Hurricane Andrew, he redesigned his greenhouse to expand its inventory and to grow a larger variety of orchids and moved to a 3-acre tract in the Redlands where he grows in a beautiful garden setting.
